50 Shades of ///M

2022 marks half a century of the motorsport brand, with the acknowledgement from the brand set to mark the milestone on customer cars.

BMW is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its motorsport BMW M brand. Started in 1971 as a racing division, BMW M GmbH is a staple of German motorsport, having cars take part in Touring Car racing, the Formula Series, including Formula 1, and GT challenge racing.

Today BMW M GmbH is known for making high performance variants of its road going cars. Think more of introducing their dish to Gordon Ramsay to get the most flavour out of it; BMW M takes a car and stretches the performance from its bare chassis to make the ultimate version of a car.

More akin to the art of in-house tuning, BMW celebrates its 0th anniversary by bringing more colour into its production cars. These colours were available on special edition M cars, and are making a return to the new M2, M3 and M4 50th year models in 2022. This incl;udes Macao Blue from the 30 Jahre M3, Fire Orange from the M3 GTS, classic M3 Dakar Yellow, Classic M Imola Red, and Frozen Marina Bay Blue.

The more noticeable inclusion of the M lineage is the new badge shape on the BMW front roudel, which is now a flat shaped design as an incorporation of the new logo. the circular design sees the main logo reduced in size in diameter, as its surrounds are adorned with the M colours on white design. the badge placements will be on the bumper badge, as well as the rear badge and wheels, replacing the usual roundel logo. This will feature as an option to BMW customers from the 2nd quarter of this year, as the period will be closer to the day the brand turns 50.

The 50th celebration of the BMW M brand would, in addition, be hosting celebrations at its stands in the world of motorsport, featuring and hosting events such as the upcoming Kyalami 9 Hour Endurance races, set to celebrate its milestone in South Africa.

The Kyalami 9 hour Endurance Challenge series is celebrating its 40th year of existence, as well as its 3rd year in South Africa as of recent. This is the 2nd time since 2019 that the event will be broadcast throughout all major super sport channels, as well as spectatorship of a limit of 2000 guests

The event will take place in Kyalami, South Africa, on the 18th to 20th of June, with tickets to go on sale online soon.
